    Helping those Injured by Chantix

Smoking is a public scourge, and for good reason. It's as dangerous as any habit in existence these days, and countless cases of lung cancer and other terrible diseases have been linked to habitual smoking. Even secondhand smoke has proven to be dangerous, which is why there has been an enormous public outcry for the cessation of smoking for so many years.

However, the truth of the matter is that it's difficult to stop smoking. Cigarettes and other tobacco products contain nicotine, which is an addictive substance that continually draws people back to a habit that they know is harmful to them and those around them. As a result, help is needed by many in almost every way. That's why medications began to hit the market, and one in particular has proven to present dangers that could make taking it more risky than the behavior it intends to stop.

The drug is Chantix, and if you or someone you love has been harmed as a result of using it, contact the dangerous products lawyers at the law firm of Parilman & Associates today to schedule a free initial consultation. In the meantime, below is a brief overview of the issue.

    Chantix Information

Chantix is manufactured and marketed by Pfizer, Inc. and it was originally approved for use in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2006. It works by blocking the nicotine receptors in the body, thereby reducing the cravings a smoker will otherwise feel regularly throughout the day.

    Problems Arise

Unfortunately, reports of side effects in connection with the use of Chantix soon began to arise. Although Pfizer was overt in its communication of less severe side effects, including:
    • Nausea
    • Strange dreams
    • Constipation
    • Gas/abdominal discomfort
    • Vomiting
The most serious side effect appeared only in the 'fine print' of the labels. That side effect is the tendency for suicidal thoughts and periodic violent tendencies. At least one person was killed as a result of these sorts of episodes, and as many as 37 others who had taken Chantix committed suicide.
