  • Defective Drywall Lawyers - Fighting for the Rights of Victims of Defective Chinese Drywall

The early part of the 21st Century featured a historic housing boom in the United States. Millions of people were taking advantage of laws and priorities set by bankers and the government to purchase a home, many for the first time, and as a result, the demand for homes was at an all-time high.

As a result, builders were busier than they ever had been, and when this occurs, it almost always leads to the temptation to cut corners in order to meet that market demand and to finish projects on time and within the stated budget. This appears to have happened in several areas of the United States where builders used Chinese drywall, and homeowners are now feeling the effects of this decision. If you have been harmed as a result of these products, contact Parilman & Associates today to schedule a free initial consultation.

    The Issue at Hand

Specifically, housing units in the Southeastern United States, including Florida, North Carolina and Virginia appear to be the most heavily affected due to these products. They were imported throughout the years 2004 and 2005 and into 2006 because of a shortage of American drywall inventory from domestic suppliers.

According to the first investigations, this imported drywall from China sat on barges at sea for months awaiting approval for entry into the United States for use on thousands of homes. When it gained approval, it was simply moved onto the construction sites and built into the homes that needed it.

    Problems

After a few months inside these homes, owners began to notice the first sign of a problem - the smell of rotten eggs and/or sulfur emanating from inside their walls. This prompted calls to contractors and the like to inspect the situation, and many discovered at that point that their drywall was defective and needed to be replaced, usually running in the thousands of dollars to do so.

What's worse is that the people above appear to have been the fortunate ones relative to others. Some homeowners did not discover the problem early in the process, and as a result more significant damage was done, including the rotting of internal pipes and electrical systems, all of which was extremely expensive to repair. All of this can be traced to these defective products, and lawsuits are being filed presently against the builders of these homes in an effort to hold them accountable for the decision to use this drywall.
