Fighting for the Rights of those Harmed by Digitek

Millions of people suffer from heart problems, and billions of dollars have been spent on the research and development of medications designed to help manage these serious health issues. Over time, many drugs have been released onto the marketplace that have proven to be successful, but as is the case with all too many different medications, one drug in particular proved to be extremely dangerous due to a manufacturing mistake and was subsequently recalled by the manufacturer.

The drug at issue is known as Digitek, and below is an overview of the issues surrounding this medication. In the meantime, if you or someone you love has suffered because of the use of Digitek, contact the defective drugs lawyers at the law firm of Parilman & Associates today to schedule a free initial consultation.

    About Digitek

Digitek is a prescription medication that's manufactured by Actavis Totawa and is distributed by Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Inc., with a "Bertek" label and by UDL Laboratories, Inc. with a "UDL" label. The drug was intended to help patients manage different heart-related problems that included heart failure, weak hearts in general and those who suffer from abnormal/erratic heart rates, known as arrhythmia.

    The Defect

While many drugs that are proven to be dangerous are found as such because of the chemical ingredients inherent in the medication, Digitek encountered an entirely different problem. In April of 2008, Actavis Totawa announced a recall of the drug because of a manufacturing defect that led to many of the pills of Digitek containing twice the amount of active ingredients as was intended. Clearly, this led to serious problems for those who took the tainted pills.

    The Side Effects and Symptoms

The side effects that were most prominent as a result of those tainted pills were digitalis overdose and toxicity, which led to all sorts of heart problems, heart failure and even death in some patients. Symptoms that prominently presented themselves included:
    • Nausea
    • Vomiting
    • Cardiac instability
    • Dizziness
    • Low Blood Pressure
    • Bradycardia
Clearly, these are serious problems, and if you are still taking Digitek, contact your doctor to begin the process of removing this medication from your routine. If you or someone you love has been harmed as a result of taking Digitek, contact a defective drugs attorney at Parilman & Associates today to schedule a free initial consultation.
