  • Levaquin and Cipro Lawyer Helping Victims of Levaquin and Cipro

Bacterial infections are a serious problem when someone contracts such a condition, and given their severity, companies didn't waste any time researching, developing and formulating medications designed to treat them and to help patients get past them. Bacterial infections require powerful drugs to eradicate them, and several brand names became quite prevalent over the past decade.

Two of those brand names are Levaquin and Cipro, both of which are considered members of the drug class known as the fluoroquinolone group of antibiotics, and the bacterial infections they are most commonly used to treat include:
    • Abdomen
    • Bones
    • Lower respiratory system
    • Urinary tract
    • Skin
For a period of a few years, these drugs proved to be relatively successful in terms of their overall results. However, it wasn't long before a disturbing number of reports began to surface in relation to both Levaquin and Cipro.

    The Problems

Specifically, in early 2008, the consumer action group known as Public Citizen filed a lawsuit against the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to compel it to affix more stern warnings on the labels of these products. Ultimately, in July of that year, the FDA did in fact act and required that a 'Black Box' warning be attached to these containers. This requirement is the second most severe remedy available to the FDA short of a recall, and the reasons for this decision are quite clear.

The crux of the issue is that several consumers began to report disturbing trends that involved ruptured tendons throughout their bodies that required surgery and in some cases total replacements. Few things are more painful than ruptured tendons, including the Achilles tendon, which was the most common side effect, and chronic tendonitis.

If you or someone you love has been injured by either Levaquin and/or Cipro, you need to contact the defective drugs lawyers at the law firm of Parilman & Associated today to schedule a free initial consultation.
