Oral Sodium Phosphate (Fleet)
  • Fleet OSP Attorneys - Helping Victims of Feel Oral Sodium Phosphate

As the medical science industry has continued to advance at a somewhat remarkable rate in several directions, certain procedures are becoming more prevalent both in terms of treatment of problems and in terms of preventative care. One of these procedures is the colonoscopy, which is seen by many as an aid in preventing problems with that area of the body, including colon cancer.

One of the natural by-products of a colonoscopy is the need to cleanse the bowels prior to the procedure in order to allow doctors to obtain a better idea of the condition of a patient's colon and surrounding areas. Unfortunately, some of these products have led to the development of serious side effects, and if this includes you, contact the defective products lawyers at Parilman & Associates today to schedule a free initial consultation.

Fleet Oral Sodium Phosphate (OSP) Information

One of the products at issue is an OSP line that was sold by C.B. Fleet Company. The product was intended to be taken orally and to clean out the bowels prior to procedures and or analysis of a person's colon. Generally, these products were thought to be safe for a time, and many different product options continue to exist within this market. The sodium phosphate present in these OSP's was the active ingredient that prompted the emptying of the bowels.

    Problems Arise

However, this product, sold over the counter by the C.B. Fleet Company, soon became the subject of a voluntary recall initiated by the company. Specifically, the products recalled by C.B. Fleet included the Fleet® Phospho-soda® and Fleet® Phospho-soda® EZ-Prep® BowelCleansing System.

The reason for these recalls was the alarming tendency for side effects to follow their use that included serious kidney damage, some with the specific condition of nephrocalcinosis. This condition is tied to the presence of an amount of calcium and phosphate deposits in the kidneys that was simply too high to be safe.

The worst part of nephrocalcinosis is that it can lead to damage to the kidneys that's permanent in nature. Some patients who suffer from it must deal with daily dialysis treatments and others have even needed kidney transplants. These potential problems are what led to these recalls.

If you have suffered as a result of using these products, you need to contact the law firm of Parilman & Associates as soon as possible to schedule a free initial consultation.
