  • Shoulder Pain Pump Attorneys - Helping Victims of Defective Shoulder Pain Pumps

When people need surgery on joints such as shoulders, the immediate aftermath of such procedures can involve a high degree of pain while the surgical area heals. In recent years, innovations have hit the market that allowed these patients to manage that pain without having to report to their medical care provider every day for pain treatment.

One of the leading product lines for this pain management was a series of implanted shoulder pain pumps that were designed to allow the patient to get through those first few days without additional effort. However, as you'll see below, these products led to serious side effects and damage to the patients. If this includes you, contact the defective product lawyers at Parilman & Associates today to schedule a free initial consultation.

    The Products

The products at issue were small, implanted shoulder pain pumps that were inserted into the surgical areas of the joint during arthroscopic surgery. These pumps contained pain medication that was to be released into the system automatically to help alleviate the sometimes-severe pain and soreness that often accompanies the immediate aftermath of these procedures. According to the product's design, patients were to be able to remove the pumps themselves after using them for a few days. The most popular models were manufactured by companies such as Stryker, I-Flow, Donjoy and Breg.

    Problems Arise

Unfortunately for many, reports of serious problems with these devices soon began to surface. Specifically, a study published in 2007 by the American Journal of Sports Medicine (AJSM) concluded that many of these pumps sent a concentration of pain medication into the joint that was too high to be safe.

This overflow of medication led to the development of several side effects, most prominently a condition known as Postarthroscopic Glenohumeral Chondrolysis (PAGCL). PAGCL is a debilitating condition that attacks and all but destroys the glenohumeral joint, which is the joint that connects the arm and shoulder.

Those who suffer from PAGCL often have to undergo additional surgeries in an attempt to mitigate the problem, but many face a life of chronic pain and a shoulder joint that's been rendered useless by PAGCL.

If this includes you, then you need to act now to enforce your rights. Contact the defective products attorneys at the law firm of Parilman & Associates today to schedule a free initial consultation.
